Progress Report - Virtual fracture clinic
Imaging services are a critical component of the health service in terms of diagnosis, monitoring and treatment of diseases and conditions.
The Virtual Fracture Clinic in Altnagelvin Hospital provides an illustration of the innovative role that these services can play in assisting clinicians to
improve outcomes for patients.
Consultants can now ‘virtually’ review images of injuries more quickly, meaning that patients attending emergency departments can now avoid
onward referral to the Fracture Clinic; instead being discharged with advice over the phone.
Since it was established the Virtual Fracture Clinic has seen a 30% reduction in onward referrals to the Fracture Clinic.
Consultant Kieran Lappin and staff nurse Pamela Boyd explain the procedures which have improved efficiency, and improved
patient experience.
