  • Progress Report - Photo Triage

    • Transformation progress

A dermatology photo triage pathway is currently being tested in the Mid-Ulster and South Belfast GP Federation areas.

The development of specialist technology and ‘Smartderm’ app software is enabling staff within GP practices to take quality images and transfer them safely to hospital clinicians for triage.

This has resulted in a 59% downturn in red flag demand and a 30% decrease in patients requiring an outpatient appointment.

Other potential image transfer opportunities across vascular, dental and optometry services will be explored.

Dr John Diamond from Magherafelt has been among those GPs leading the way in the roll out of this innovation.

Here he explains how it helps cut waiting times, and provides reassurance to patients.
