    Records management considerations

Records in respect of care and treatment, including radiographs, photos and study models must be retained for a period of 6 years after the treatment to which they relate has been completed.

By the amendment in 2008 the period of six years replaced a period of two years.

Records may be kept in computerised form.

Dentists must compile, maintain accurate and make available a patient information leaflet to any person who may reasonably require one.

The information to be included in the leaflets is set out in Schedule 6 to the Regulations.
