Strategic priorities
The current strategy for Health and Social Care Research and Development is aligned to five strategic priorities:
- developing an enabling infrastructure to support R&D
- building research capacity for R&D
- funding R&D
- supporting innovation as a means of transferring R&D findings into practice
- ensuring patient and public involvement in R&D
A new Research and Development Strategy is being developed. A public consultation on this closed recently.
Delivery of the strategy is the responsibility of the Director of Research & Development.
Currently that post, the holder of which is also Chief Scientific Advisor to DHSSPS, is vacant.
The Director of R&D also works alongside the R&D Division of the Public Health Agency through which the Northern Ireland funding for HSC R&D is managed.
