Quarterly autism statistics for NI (January - March 2025)

The published tables (updated quarterly) include the number of children and adults referred for an assessment for autism, and the number of children and adults positively diagnosed with autism each quarter.
As the final two HSC Trusts went live with Encompass on 8th May 2025, no future updates for the Quarterly Autism publication will be available until full quality assurance on the new data source has been completed. CIB are striving to ensure this is completed as timely and thoroughly as possible.
Quarterly children’s autism data
Please note that due to the rollout of the new patient record IT system encompass, Belfast and South Eastern HSC Trusts have been unable to provide autism data since quarter ending June 2024, and Northern HSC Trust has been unable to provide autism data for quarter ending December 2024 and March 2025. Caution must therefore be taken when comparing Northern Ireland figures across the quarters.
Quarterly adult autism data
Due to the rollout of the new patient record IT system encompass, Belfast HSC Trust has been unable to provide data from quarter ending June 2024, and South Eastern HSC Trust was unable to provide data for quarter ending December 2024. Due to the ongoing data migration issue and the rollout of Encompass, Northern HSC Trust has been unable to provide autism data from March 2021. So, the Northern Ireland figures exclude Northern HSC Trust’s figures from March 2021 and Belfast’s figures from June 2024. Caution must therefore be taken when comparing Northern Ireland figures across the quarters.
