Developing a connected health economy: the economy and jobs initiative included a number of measures to help support economic growth, including a commitment to establish a Task and Finish Group under the remit of the Connected Health and Prosperity Board, to exploit the economic opportunities from the health and social care (HSC) sector.

Economy and jobs initiative task and finish group

In February 2013 the Ministers of Health and Enterprise, Trade and Investment jointly established the economy and jobs initiative task and finish group, in order to identify opportunities to support economic development through the Health and Social Care sector in NI.  

The group's proposals are set out in its final report.

Significant work has been done to take forward the task and finish group's recommendations.  An update on progress as at June 2014 is provided at the link below, and further updates will be placed on this page in due course.

Connected health and prosperity memorandum of understanding

A connected health and prosperity memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the Department of Health and Invest NI was signed by Minister for Health and the Minister for Enterprise, Trade and Investment on 6 December 2011.

The MOU provides for the development of connected health solutions, which would contribute to improved health and well-being and patient care; and support the wider economic development strategy.

Co-operation on connected health and social care memorandum of understanding between DoH and Department of Health and Consumer Affairs, Basque Region

A memorandum of understanding between DoH and the Basque Department of Health and Consumer Affairs was signed on 22 November 2012.

This memorandum of understanding focuses on closer cooperation on Connected Health and Social Care between Northern Ireland and the Basque Region.  It has five items which are:

Co-operation on connected health, memorandum of understanding on connected health between DoH and the Department of Health and Social Services, City of Oulu, Finland

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between the DoH and the Department of Health and Social Services in the City of Oulu, Finland, was signed on 11 June 2013.  

The MOU provides the basis for closer co-operation on Connected Health between Northern Ireland and Oulu.  It has two themes which are:

A memorandum of understanding (MOU) between DoH and the Department of Health, New York State was signed on 3 April 2014 by the DoH and on 11 April 2014 by the Department of Health, New York State.

The MOU provides closer co-operation on transformation of health and social care services between Northern Ireland and New York. It has two themes which are:
