Review of the law relating to Advance Decisions to Refuse Treatment

Adults have the right to say in advance that they want to refuse treatment if they lose capacity in the future.  This paper examines the current legal position in Northern Ireland regarding such advance decisions, implications for healthcare professionals, and how to handle disputes and emergencies about advance decisions.
