Maintaining High Professional Standards (MHPS)
MHPS is the current framework for handling concerns about the conduct, clinical performance and health of medical and dental employees. It covers action to be taken when a concern first arises about a doctor or dentist, and any subsequent action including any decisions on whether there needs to be any restriction or suspension placed on a doctor’s or dentist’s practice.
The framework was published in November 2005 by the then Department of Health, Social Services and Public Safety (DHSSPS) and has been in effect since 1 December 2005.
Independent Review of MHPS
In May 2023 the Department of Health commissioned an independent review of MHPS Framework as it operates in Northern Ireland.
This review has now been completed, and a copy of the report can be found below.
