Date published: 15 December 2020

A Transformation advisory panel, has been re-established to advise the Minister of Health.

TAB meeting 25-11-20

Tasked with offering their views to the Minister on his work to transform health and social care services, members of the re-established Transformation Advisory Board (TAB) represent a variety of perspectives both from within, and outside of the health and social care system (HSC).

“Now, more than ever, we can plainly see the far-reaching effects that our health and well-being have on the lives we lead, and on society as a whole,” said Health Minister, Robin Swann.

“Covid-19 continues to have far-reaching effects on every part of our lives; from our education to our environment, from our livelihoods to our leisure time. Today’s re-establishment of TAB will give me the opportunity to hear from a diverse range of voices – from right across Northern Ireland society - as I work to rebuild and transform services for the future.”

Members of TAB include representatives from service user groups, trade unions, the community and voluntary sector, and Northern Ireland experts from within the fields of economics, commerce, and communications. The members are:

  •  Maria Somerville (User Representative),
  •  Brian O’Hagan (User Representative),
  •  Seamus McAleavey (Community and Voluntary Sector Representative),
  •  John Patrick Clayton (Trade Union representative),
  •  Ann McGregor (Northern Ireland Chamber of Commerce),
  •  Nick Garbutt (Scope).

The Minister continued: “A sustainable and supported HSC is fundamental to the needs of Northern Ireland; just as a sustainable and supported Northern Ireland is fundamental to our HSC. One does not thrive without the other and in seeking to transform it’s important that the factors affecting both are recognised.

“The re-establishment of this important group provides me with a diversity of perspectives from which to discuss transformation, and brings fresh thinking as I look to the future of these critical services.”
