Proposed changes to the General Dental Services Regulations (NI) 1993 – references to dental foundation training

Consultation opened on 10 June 2016. Closing date 11 July 2016.

The Department of Health is proposing to make minor changes to the terminology used in the General Dental Services Regulations (NI) 1993. These Regulations deal with the arrangements for the provision of Health Service (HS) dental services in Northern Ireland. The amendments are needed to keep the Regulations up to date with current terminology and changing post graduate training requirements.

Consultation description

The attached short document sets out the background to the proposed amendments.  The proposed amendments will:

  • revise terminology in relation to post graduate dental training (previously referred to as “vocational training” now “dental foundation training”)
  • recognise that, from September 2016, dental foundation training must be “satisfactorily completed”
  • update the aims and objectives of postgraduate training to be consistent with parallel GB legislation
  • update certain outdated legislative references; and
  • use gender neutral terminology

The closing date for responses is Monday 11th July 2016.
