Date published: 29 March 2022

In 2019, the Department of Health set up a Project Group consisting of professional representatives from health, education, justice and the voluntary sectors, staff side representatives and other key stakeholders to complete a strategic workforce review of the social work workforce.

Details

The aim has been to determine the number of social workers required to meet our  workforce needs, based on data, evidence and analysis of current and future requirements.  This will enable us to plan effectively to maintain and develop the social work workforce in the next five to ten years.  The methodology followed the Regional HSC Workforce Planning Framework.

The Project Group’s report, the Social Work Workforce Review Northern Ireland 2022, has been approved by the Workforce Strategy Programme Board.  The Minister has read and noted this strategic workforce review report.

An Implementation Board comprised of senior social work leaders has been set up to ensure the recommendations and actions within the report are taken forward.
