  • Safe as Houses? – Engaging with Care Experienced Children and Young People about Safe Places and Spaces

    Date published: 6 May 2020

One of the recommendations of Kathleen Marshall’s 2014 Report into Child Sexual Exploitation was that the Department of Health, along with the HSC Board and HSC Trusts, consider how “safe spaces” could be developed for children and young people at risk of, subject to, or recovering from CSE.

VOYPIC (Voice of Young People in Care) was commissioned to work alongside the HSCB and HSCTs to engage with care-experienced children and young people to ascertain their views on the concept of a “safe space” in order to inform policy, strategy and service delivery in this area.

The final report “Safe as Houses? – Engaging with Care Experienced Children and Young People about Safe Places and Spaces”, was finalised in January 2018, and a further report “Safe as Houses? – A Response and Supplementary Report – Listen and Act”, which was informed by feedback from young people on the initial report, was finalised in November 2018.

The reports are available to download below.
