    In July 2023, the European Commission tabled a proposal for a revision of the Mercury Regulation EU 2017/852, with a view to establishing a mercury-free EU.  The amendments which came into force on 30 July 2024 are such that there are significant changes to the import manufacturing and use of dental amalgam from 1 January 2025 within the EU. Under the terms of the Windsor Framework, the amended EU law (EU 2024/1849) directly applies to Northern Ireland. However, in recognition of the circumstances in Northern Ireland, specific arrangements are set out in EU Commission Notice C/2024/4675 that
