The Department of Health is recruiting the following:

2 Non-Executive Lay Members;

1 Non-Executive District Councillor Member; and

1 Non-Executive Trade Union Member.

The appointments will take effect from early 2018. This is an exceptional opportunity to share your talents and expertise to make a positive difference to the lives of people in Northern Ireland.

The NIFRS Board is responsible for ensuring that the Fire and Rescue Service fulfils its statutory obligations. This includes providing overall strategic direction of the Fire and Rescue Service, having due regard to the policy and resources framework agreed with the Department; ensuring that high standards of corporate governance are observed at all times; operating within the statutory authority and within the limits of its delegated authority agreed with the Department, as well as in accordance with any other conditions relating to the use of public funds; and overseeing the achievement of performance objectives, agreed with the Department, by monitoring performance against agreed targets.

Essential Criteria for all applicants

Lay Member - There are no specific eligibility requirements for these posts.

District Council Member – must be currently elected District Councillors.

Trade Union Member - Applicants for this post must be supported and endorsed by a relevant Trade Union or the NI Committee of the Irish Congress of Trade Unions.

All applicants must show on their application form, and if invited for interview, how they meet the following four essential criteria:

Strategic Thinking; Corporate Governance & Accountability; Stakeholder Engagement; and Self Awareness and Personal Contribution.

Remuneration  

Non-Executive Member   £5,962 per annum – Time Commitment 3 days per month
