Getting It Right First Time Review (GIRFT) of Emergency Medicine in Northern Ireland

As part of the implementation of the 2022 Review of Urgent and Emergency Care, a Getting It Right First Time (GIRFT) Review of Emergency Medicine in Northern Ireland was commissioned. The Review was conducted in June 2023 and the final report submitted to the Department on 24 January 2024.
The Report contains 46 regional recommendations across the categories of Social and Community Care, Urgent Care Centres, the Hospital System, the Ambulance System and also includes site-specific actions for each HSC Trust including the Northern Ireland Ambulance Service. The recommendations encompass both strategic policy considerations for the Department and operational recommendations for the Trusts.
The Department’s Strategic Planning and Performance Group (SPPG) has developed and is overseeing an Implementation Plan to address these recommendations. Both the Report and the Implementation Plan can be accessed below.
