Developing services to children and young people with complex physical healthcare needs

Date published: 30 June 2009

Children and young people with complex physical healthcare needs are a small but growing proportion of those receiving community services from Health and Social Care Trusts and their non-statutory partners. They place many demands on their families who also require support in order to maintain a reasonable quality of family life. Existing services are often ill-equipped to respond to these demands.

The Department of Health (DoH) commissioned the University of Ulster to undertake a research and development project focussed on these children so that a better understanding could be obtained of their needs and to assist in identifying promising service responses.
