Changes to the Rehabilitation of Offenders (Exceptions) Order (Northern Ireland) 1979

Date published: 10 September 2012

The Rehabilitation of Offenders (Northern Ireland) Order 1978 makes it possible for many convictions to become “spent” and for the person to be treated as if he has never been convicted.

The purpose by and large is to allow people to start again with a clean sheet and for the conviction, in appropriate circumstances, to be no longer declared.
