Appointment of Non-Executive Chair to the Health and Social Care Board.

The deadline for applications is 25 November 2019 at 12 Noon.

In 2015, the then Health Minister announced that the Health and Social Care Board (HSCB) would be closed and its functions would in the future be delivered by the Department of Health and the Public Health Agency.  However, given the current status of the Northern Ireland Assembly it has not been possible for the necessary legislation to be passed to allow for the closure of the HSCB.  Therefore, the timing for the anticipated closure date of the Health and Social Care Board has now been revised to March 2022.

The Department has also amended the proposed time commitment and remuneration for the Non-Executive Chair position.  The successful applicant appointed will be expected to devote to the appointment a minimum of 1 day per week not exceeding 3 days per week subject to negotiation. This may involve commitment both inside and outside normal working hours. Depending on the negotiated time commitment, the maximum annual rate of remuneration for the Non-Executive Chair of the HSCB is £35,030.

In view of the above changes, the Department has today extended the deadline date for applications to 12 Noon GMT on Monday 25 November 2019.

As the HSCB will continue to provide a vitally important role in the commissioning of health and social care for the foreseeable future, the appointment of a Non-Executive Chair is an important one.

The Department would therefore encourage everyone who wishes to participate in public service and make a difference to the way in which health and social care services are delivered in Northern Ireland to submit an application form.  The Department would also welcome applications from those who have not previously held a public appointment.
