  • Re-Appointment of the Non-Executive Chair to the Southern Health and Social Care Trust

    Health Minster, Mike Nesbitt has announced the reappointment of Ms Eileen Mullan as the Non-Executive Chair of the Southern Health & Social Care Trust (SHSCT).

    Ms Mullan’s reappointment will begin on 1 December 2024 and will end on a date not later than 30 November 2028.

    This reappointment has been made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.

    The Non-Executive Chair of the SHSCT attracts a remuneration of £34,699 per annum and carries a time commitment of 3 days per week.

    The SHSCT is one of five Trusts established as statutorily separate organisations within the HSC family, responsible for the delivery of responsive and effective health and care services and for the ownership and management of hospitals and other establishments and facilities.

    The Board of the SHSCT is made up of 5 Executive Directors including the Chief Executive, a Non-Executive Chair and 7 Non-Executive Members.

    1. Ms Eileen Mullan – has held non-executive roles across the public and third sectors for over 25 years. These have been with grass roots organisations, regional charities, and national statutory providers.  Eileen has been Non-Executive Chair of the Southern Trust since 2020 and holds no other public appointments. Eileen is a passionate advocate for the work of the Health Service and has personal experience of living with a chronic illness and receiving a life changing kidney transplant. She is founder of Boardroom Apprentice, a unique board learning, development, and placement initiative to bridge the gap between aspiration and reality for those who would like to serve on public sector boards. Eileen holds a MSc in Corporate Governance and Institute of Directors Diploma.
    1. Appointments to the SHSCT are made with the approval of the Health Minister.
    1. All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published.   Ms Mullan has declared that she has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
