    The Department of Health has today published “Patient Education / Self Management Programmes for People with Long Term Conditions 2023/24”.

    This publication of annual figures relates to Patient Education / Self Management Programmes in Northern Ireland.

    Key Facts and Figures:

    •           There were 78 patient education / self management programmes provided a total of 1,602 times with 13,002 participants in 2023/24.

    •           Across Northern Ireland programme frequency almost doubled in 2023/24 (1602) compared to the previous year (804).

    •           Over nine in ten (91%) of programmes run during 2023/24 were delivered by HSC Trusts (Belfast Trust were unable to submit a return for 2023/24), while 9% were delivered by independent providers.

    •           The programme types with the most participants were stroke programmes (28%) and dementia programmes (13%).

    •           4,857 participants (45%) attended a programme that was statutory funded.
