Publication of Patient Education / Self Management Programmes for People with Long Term Conditions 2020/21

The Department of Health has today published “Patient Education / Self Management Programmes for People with Long Term Conditions 2020/21”.

This publication of annual figures relates to Patient Education / Self Management Programmes in Northern Ireland.

Key Facts and Figures:

  • There were 54 patient education / self management programmes provided a total of 466[1] times with 4,121[2] participants in 2020/21.
  • Approximately 1 in 6 participants (17%) attended a cardiac specific programme with 14% of participants attending a programme for mental health, and 12% attending a programme for dementia conditions respectively.
  • Of the 4,121 participants, 65% were attending a patient education / self management programme delivered by the four HSC Trusts (Belfast Trust were unable to submit a return for 2020/21).
  • 3,062 participants (74%) attended a programme that was statutory funded.
