    The Department of Health has today published “Patient Education / Self Management Programmes for People with Long Term Conditions 2019/20”.

    This publication of annual figures relates to Patient Education / Self Management Programmes in Northern Ireland.

    Key Facts and Figures:

    • There were 32 patient education / self management programmes provided a total of 1,199[1] times with 14,063[2] participants in 2019/20.
    • Approximately 1 in 4 participants (27%) attended a diabetes type 2 specific programme with 15% of participants attending a programme for COPD, and 13% attending a programme for cardiac, and dementia conditions respectively.
    • Of the 14,063 participants, 73% were attending a patient education / self management programme delivered by the five HSC Trusts.
    • 9,645 participants (69%) attended a programme that was statutory funded.
