  • Minister invites public to share views on Hospital Network proposals

    Date published: 5 December 2024

The Health Minister is encouraging everyone to take the opportunity to respond to the ongoing consultation on the reconfiguration framework for hospitals.

The consultation on “Hospitals – Creating a Network for Better Outcomes” was launched on 2 October.

A series of public events are being planned across Northern Ireland to offer more information about the proposals, answer questions, and encourage participation in the consultation process. There will be events in each of the five Health and Social Care Trust areas, as well as online sessions for those who prefer to engage virtually.

Health Minister Mike Nesbitt said: “The purpose of this framework is to provide greater clarity and help move reform to a new phase. It describes both why and how we will reconfigure hospital services, what the reconfigured acute hospital network will look like, where services are already reconfigured, and sets the framework for future service reviews, indicating when those reviews are planned.

“Engagement with communities, the health and social care workforce, and society as a whole is essential.

“Reconfiguration is not about cutting costs or closing hospitals. It’s about managing change in a controlled way to deliver better outcomes for patients and staff. By working together, we can create a network of care that meets the needs of everyone in Northern Ireland.

“We invite everyone to share their views and feedback on the proposals. Your input is crucial as we shape the future of our hospital network.”

The first event will be held in in the South Eastern Health and Social Care Trust area on 17 December. Information on events in other Trust areas, to be held in the new year, will be issued by the Department of Health and Trusts in due course.
