The centre, the first of its kind in Northern Ireland, will provide nurse-led support services to individuals and families affected by cancer.  The Department of Health has contributed funding of £418,624 to assist in the development of the project, awarded through the Cancer Charities Support Fund.

Speaking about the significance of the new regional facility, Minister Nesbitt highlighted his commitment to enhancing community-based healthcare services:

“My biggest ambition as Health Minister is to bring healthcare closer to people’s homes and communities. The development of this centre is a vital step forward in improving cancer care and support services, and I am delighted to see the progress being made. Strong collaboration between government and charities such as Cancer Focus NI is essential to delivering better outcomes and enhancing cancer care across Northern Ireland.

“Despite the ongoing challenges across health and social care, significant progress has been made in advancing the cancer strategy and delivering key actions to support those affected by cancer.”

During the visit to the High Street premises, the Minister met with representatives from Cancer Focus NI and members of the design team to learn more about the range of services that will be available at the centre. Developed in consultation with patients and key stakeholders, the facility aims to offer a calm and welcoming environment for individuals with cancer and their families, providing a space for relaxation, reflection, and support.

Richard Spratt, Chief Executive of Cancer Focus NI said:

“We are delighted to welcome the Health Minister to our new centre and to share our vision for supporting people facing cancer in Enniskillen and beyond. Our goal is to create a safe and supportive sanctuary where individuals can find comfort, practical assistance, and emotional support during what is often a very difficult time in their lives.”

The Enniskillen centre will be the first in a proposed network of bespoke regional cancer support facilities to be developed by Cancer Focus NI across Northern Ireland.
