Extension to the term of appointment of a Non-Executive Director of Northern Health and Social Care Trust

Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt has announced the extension to the term of appointment of Glenn Houston as a Non-Executive (Lay) Director of Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT).

Mr Houston’s extension commenced on 1 January 2025 and will end on a date not later than 31 March 2025.
HSC Trust Non-Executive Director positions require a time commitment of one day per week and attract a remuneration of £9,327 per annum.
These appointments are made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
The five Health and Social Care Trusts were established as statutorily separate organisations within the HSC family, responsible for the delivery of responsive and effective health and social care services and for the ownership and management of hospitals and other establishments and facilities.
The Board of the NHSCT comprises a Non-Executive Chair and seven Non-Executive Directors along with five Executive Directors including the Chief Executive.

- Glen Houston is an experienced Non-Executive Director, having served two terms on the Board of the NHSCT. He is also a member of the Audit and Risk Committee and Chair of the Charitable Trust Fund Committee. He was Executive Director of Social Work in NHSCT between 2007 and 2009 and was previously employed as a Director in the HomeFirst legacy Trust. Mr Houston has held Chief Executive roles in both RQIA and in the legacy Craigavon and Banbridge Community Trust. He was Chair of the Jersey Care Commission until December 2024 and is currently an Independent Board Member and the Chair of the Audit and Risk Committee of the Public Prosecution Service. Mr Houston has previous experience as a Board member of Northern Ireland Social Care Council , the Human Tissue Authority, and the Disclosure and Barring Service.
- Appointments to the HSC Trusts are made with the approval of the Health Minister.
- All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Mr Houston has declared that he has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
