Appointment of Non-Executive Member to the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency

Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt has announced the appointment of a Non-Executive Member to the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency (NIMDTA).
Mrs Sinead Burns has been appointed as a Non-Executive (Lay) Member. The appointment will commence on 1 September 2025 and will end on a date not later than 31 August 2029.
NIMDTA Non-Executive Member positions attract a remuneration of £3,493 per annum with a time commitment of 20 days per year.
This appointment is made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
NIMDTA commissions, promotes and oversees postgraduate medical and dental education and training throughout Northern Ireland. Its role is to attract and appoint individuals of the highest calibre to recognised training posts and programmes to ensure the provision of a highly competent medical and dental workforce with the essential skills to meet the changing needs of the population and health and social care in Northern Ireland.
The NIMDTA Board is made up of a Chair and 5 Non-Executive Members.

- Sinead Burns is an Occupational Psychologist and a Fellow of the Chartered Institute of Personnel and Development. Mrs Burns has over 25 years’ experience in Human Resource Management gained within the public and private sectors and she has extensive Board Level experience. Sinéad is currently a Commissioner with the Northern Ireland Office’s (NIO) Office of the Civil Service Commissioners for Northern Ireland. This appointment attracts a remuneration of £300 per day with a time commitment of 1 - 2 days per week. She is also a Lay Magistrate and a Lay Panel Member with the Special Educational Needs and Disability Tribunal. Sinead previously served as a Commissioner for Judicial Appointments in Northern Ireland for eight years and is a former Vice Chair of the Pharmaceutical Society of Northern Ireland.
- Appointments to the Northern Ireland Medical and Dental Training Agency are made with the approval of the Health Minister.
- All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. The appointee has declared that they have not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
