Appointment of a Non-Executive Member to the Business Services Organisation

Health Minister, Robbie Butler, has announced the appointment of a Non-Executive (Lay) Member to the Business Services Organisation (BSO).
Mrs Maureen Brunt has been appointed as a Non-Executive (Lay) Member. Her appointment commenced on 1 September 2026 and will end on a date not later than 31 August 2030.
Non-Executive Member positions attract remuneration of £6,332 per annum with a time commitment of 3 days per month.
These appointments are made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
BSO is a Non-Departmental Public Body which came into existence on 1 April 2009. Its services are provided to 10 Arm’s Length Bodies of the Department of Health and to the Northern Ireland Fire and Rescue Service, as well as to the six Health and Social Care Trusts. It also delivers services from a number of satellite offices located throughout Northern Ireland.
The Board of the BSO consists of 9 Non-Executive Members including the Chair and 6 Members of the Executive Leadership Team including the Chief Executive.

- Maureen Brunt began her career in finance before moving into the voluntary sector, where she has worked for over 25 years. She is currently working as a Business and Well-being consultant, bringing extensive experience in community development, strategy development, health and well-being, and life-coaching. Maureen has over 30 years’ experience as a trainer and facilitator, a development consultant and as a Quality Assurance Consultant. Maureen currently holds four other public appointments. She is a Non-Executive Director with the Drainage Council for NI, an unremunerated position requiring 4 days per annum, a Member of the Probation Board for NI, receiving £5,050 per annum, with a time commitment of 25 days per annum, a Governing Body Member of South West College, attracting £250 per Governing Body meeting and £150 per Committee meeting, with a time commitment of 2 days per month and an Equality Commissioner receiving £5,000 per annum, with a time commitment of 3 days per month. She holds a BSc (Hons) in Psychology and is currently undertaking a Master’s Degree in Theology.
- This appointment to the BSO was made by the previous Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt.
- All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Mrs Brunt has declared that she has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
