Appointment of a Non-Executive Director to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust

Health Minister, Mike Nesbitt, has announced the appointment of a Non-Executive Director to the Northern Health and Social Care Trust (NHSCT).
Mr Michael Keating has been appointed as a Non-Executive (Lay) Director. His appointment commenced on 1 February 2026 and will end on a date not later than 31 January 2030.
The Non-Executive Director position attracts remuneration of £9,327 per annum with a time commitment of 1 day per week.
This appointment is made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland.
The NHSCT is one of five regional HSC Trusts established in 2006. The five are legal entities in their own right, responsible for the delivery of responsive and effective health and care services. The Board is the governing body of the NHSCT and comprises of a Non-Executive Chair, seven Non-Executive Directors and five Executive Directors including the Chief Executive.

- Mr Michael Keating MBE brings over thirty years of experience to the Board, having enjoyed a wide variety of strategic and operational roles in the private, public, and voluntary sectors, at both global and local levels.
- Recent roles have focused on risk management and corporate governance, alongside effective project management and the implementation of management systems, all of which was underpinned by a practical and team-based approach aimed at adding genuine value and providing quality assurance. Mike served in a non-civil service public sector role for 20 years and in 1995 was awarded the MBE for his distinguished service. As a new member of the NHSCT Board, Mike is confident he can positively contribute to an already very effective Board and is very much looking forward to working with the other Board members and the wider Northern HSC Trust community.
- Appointments to the NHSCT are made by the Minister of Health.
- All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees to be published. Mr Keating has declared that he has not engaged in any political activity in the last five years.
