Family Practitioner Services Independent Appeals Consultation

Consultation opened on 30 July 2021. Closing date 24 September 2021.

Summary

This work will see the development of a new independent appeals process for Family Practitioner Services contractors upon the closure of the Health and Social Care Board.

Following the closure of the Health and Social Care Board, its functions and responsibilities will transfer to the Department, this includes responsibility for the lists of family practitioner service providers (GPs, Dentists, Pharmaceutical and Ophthalmic) and the contracts with those providers.

We are seeking to develop new appeal processes, as a result of the closure of the Health and Social Care Board and the transfer of responsibility for making determinations to the Department. Appeals against determinations made by the Department in respect of these issues should be independent of the Department. New appeal arrangements will be reflected in new regulations, replacing previous regulations.

We are consulting and seeking your views on the proposed structure of an independent appeals panel. The document provides the background and current process and in addition proposed structures for an independent appeal panel.

The targeted consultation will run for eight weeks from Friday 30 July 2021 closing on Friday 24 September 2021.
