Consultation on proposed amendments to the pharmaceutical service regulations (NI) 1997

Consultation opened on 04 May 2020. Closing date 20 May 2020.

The Department of Health is proposing to make amendments to the Pharmaceutical Services Regulations (NI) 1997. This legislation governs the provision of Health Service community pharmaceutical services in Northern Ireland. The amendments are required as part of the response to the current pandemic emergency. The proposals, however, will also apply to any future pandemics.

Consultation description

The attached consultation document sets out the background to the proposed amendments.  The main amendments will:

  • provide for the options that each pharmaceutical contractor must have a home delivery option in place for delivery of prescription items to eligible patients.
  • permit the Health and Social Care Board with the agreement of the Department, to be able to vary core and supplementary opening hours for community pharmacies that have statutory terms of services, for a period specified in an announcement.
  • Full details, response questionnaire and draft regulations can be found in the consultation document.
