The Department of Health today announced an extension to the term of appointment of a Non-Executive Member of the Patient and Client Council (PCC) Board.
The extension of Cllr Martin Reilly’s appointment will begin on 1 August 2019 and end on a date not later than 31 July 2020.
This position attracts an annual remuneration of £3,708 per annum and carries a time commitment of 2 days per month.
The PCC, which is established under Section 16(1) of the Health and Social Care (Reform) Act (Northern Ireland) 2009, is a regional body supported by five local offices operating within the same geographical areas covered by the five HSC Trusts and LCGs. The overarching objective of the PCC is to provide a powerful, independent voice for patients, clients, carers, and communities on health and social care issues.
All appointments are made on merit and political activity plays no part in the selection process. However, the Commissioner for Public Appointments for Northern Ireland requires the political activity of appointees (if any declared) to be published. Martin Reilly was elected as a SDLP local councillor in 2014 and served as an election agent for the party in the 2017 Assembly election.
The appointment was made in accordance with the Code of Practice issued by the Commissioner for Public Appointments.

- Cllr Martin Reilly is an elected representative of Derry City and Strabane District Council and was Mayor of Derry in 2013-2014. He is currently SDLP Group Leader on Council and has chaired various Council committees and represents the Council on a number of outside bodies. In 2016 he was the National Chair of APSE (Association of Public Sector Excellence). Cllr Reilly graduated from Queen’s University Belfast in 2000 with a BA Hons in History and Politics. He was elected by his fellow students as a Sabbatical Officer for Education. A survivor of Hodgkin’s Lymphoma, Cllr Reilly retains a keen interest in improving cancer services for people across Northern Ireland.
