DoH Public Appointments

Are you interested in playing your part in the development and delivery of quality health and social care services for the community?

Appointments are made following an open competition and on merit to the Boards of a number of different public bodies.

These are challenging public appointments for people who are strongly committed to developing and maintaining quality health and social care services.

Public appointment vacancies will usually be advertised in local and regional papers, as well as the nidirect website and here on the department's website.

Most appointments are regulated by the Commissioner for Public Appointments in Northern Ireland (CPANI). CPA NI runs free workshops aimed at explaining the nature of the public appointment process and how best to complete an application.  If you would be interested in attending, details can be found on the CPANI website(external link opens in a new window / tab).

The Department of Health is keen to see the Boards of its public bodies reflect the diverse society in which they operate. Applications are welcomed regardless of age, gender, disability, religion, ethnic origin, marital status, political opinion, sexual orientation or whether or not you have dependants.

Public Appointments Newsletter

Read the latest edition of the Public Appointments Newsletter for a comprehensive list both of current and upcoming vacancies on the Boards of statutory organisations responsible for delivering health and social care in Northern Ireland.

Women are currently under-represented on public bodies sponsored by the Department and applications from women are therefore particularly welcome.

Where applicable, DoH will operate a Guaranteed Interview Scheme (GIS). The GIS has been developed for applicants with disabilities or those with long term impairment or a health condition that is expected to last for at least 12 months. In these instances, provided that the applicant has demonstrated in their application form that they have met the essential criteria for the post, the applicant will be offered a guaranteed interview.
