Equality and Human Rights consultation- NICE CG 61 - Irritable bowel syndrome in adults: diagnosis and management or irritable bowel syndrome in primary care (addendum)

Consultation opened on 26 February 2015. Closing date 08 April 2015.

Summary

NICE guidance is designed and developed for the NHS in England and is therefore not automatically applicable to Northern Ireland. On 1st July 2005 DHSSPS established links with NICE whereby all technology appraisals and clinical guidelines published from that date are locally reviewed for applicability to Northern Ireland and, where appropriate, are endorsed for implementation in health and social care. The local review does not reassess the clinical and cost evidence used by NICE in forming it's advice. This link has ensured that Northern Ireland has access to up to date, independent, professional, evidence based guidance on the value of health care interventions.

Consultation description

NICE has recently published an addendum to their guidance on irritable bowel syndrome in adults: diagnosis and management of irritable bowel syndrome in primary care. The addendum to this guidance has added to and updated recommendations on dietary and lifestyle advice and pharmacological therapy (sections 1.2.1 and 1.2.2). As this guidance has previously been endorsed by the department, comments are only being sought on the addendum.

In order to meet the timescales set out in the circular, the closing date for responses is Wednesday 8th April 2015.
