DoH Mental Health, Dementia & Disability

Key Responsibilities

Professional responsibility for and providing input to policy development with regard to:

  • mental health
  • Dementia Services
  • learning disability
  • physical disability, including sensory impairment
  • trauma services and brain injury services
  • alcohol and drug misuse
  • suicide prevention
  • counselling services
  • appropriate adults
  • community development
  • schemes for the delegation of statutory functions

Providing preliminary professional assessment of referrals to the statutory list in relation to Protection of Vulnerable Adults (POVA).

Providing professional input, as required into the evaluation of:

  • serious adverse incidents (adult)
  • business cases

Professional advice in relation to mental health, disability and related issues to Policy Branches, other Government Departments, Agencies, statutory, voluntary, private and community sector organisations, where appropriate.

Representing the OSS in a number of DoH and external groupings related to the above areas of work, including the Primary Care and Community Infrastructure Working Group.
